Salak (Red, Seedling) Fruit Plant

Salak (Salacca zalacca) is a species of palm tree in the Arecaceae family, native to Java and Sumatra in Indonesia. It is a very short-stemmed palm with leaves that can grow up to 6 meters (20 ft) in length.

Fruit Description

The fruits grow in clusters at the base of the palm and are commonly known as “snake fruit” due to their reddish-brown scaly skin. They are roughly the size and shape of a ripe fig and have a distinct pointed tip. The edible pulp inside is accessed by pinching the tip, which allows the skin to peel away easily.

The fruit has a balanced taste that is usually sweet with a mild acidic note, making it both refreshing and flavorful.
