Red Araticum (Seedling) Fruit Plant

Araticum is a fruit-bearing tree native to the Brazilian Cerrado biome and is valued for its high nutritional, functional, and economic potential. The flowers of marolo (another common name) are unusual in appearance, often described as resembling jellyfish with hats. The fruits are rough in texture, sweet in taste, and highly aromatic.

Tree and Botanical Characteristics

Araticum has an axial root system that grows deep into the soil to access water and nutrients. The trunk is straight with somewhat crooked branches, and the bark is thick, corky, and chipped. Leaves are ovate and leathery. Yellow-green flowers appear between November and January and are pollinated by insects (entomophilous pollination).

The fruits can grow over 15 cm in diameter and weigh up to 2 kg. They contain numerous seeds, each about 1.5 cm long. When opened, the fruit reveals a creamy pulp with a strong, distinctive aroma and flavor that differs significantly from custard apple.
