Mak Dauy (Madhuca thorelii) is a medium-sized tropical tree belonging to the genus Madhuca in the Sapotaceae family (Magnoliopsida class). It is native to Thailand and Cambodia and is valued for both its edible fruit and traditional medicinal uses.

The fruit is commonly eaten fresh and has a naturally sweet flavor with a subtle resemblance to sapodilla (Manilkara zapota). It is also processed in various traditional ways, including drying, powdering, and mixing with flour, or used as a natural sweetener. In some regions, it is also fermented to produce alcoholic beverages.

The flowers of Madhuca thorelii are traditionally regarded as having medicinal properties and are considered a cooling agent, carminative, galactagogue, and astringent. They are also believed to support heart, skin, and eye health in traditional practices.

Care & Growing Conditions

Mak Dauy grows best in regions with an average annual rainfall of 550–1,500 mm. It prefers a sunny location and thrives in deep, well-drained loamy or sandy-loam soils. Proper drainage and warm tropical conditions are important for healthy growth and fruit production.
