Cocoplum (Seedling) Fruit Plant
Cocoplum Fruit Plant (Chrysobalanus icaco) – Rare Tropical Coastal Fruit Rich in Antioxidants
Cocoplum (Chrysobalanus icaco)
Cocoplum (Chrysobalanus icaco) is a rare tropical fruit tree naturally found along sea beaches and inland regions throughout tropical Africa, the tropical Americas, the Caribbean, southern Florida, and the Bahamas. It has also been introduced to several tropical islands, where it has become a naturalized species. This evergreen tree grows up to 9 meters (30 feet) tall and is admired for both its ornamental beauty and edible fruits.
The tree features attractive, round, glossy green leaves that may range from green to light reddish shades. Its bark is greyish to reddish-brown with distinctive white speckles. Small clusters of greenish-white flowers appear intermittently throughout the year, with peak flowering during late spring. In Barbados, Trinidad & Tobago, and Guyana, the fruit is popularly known as "Fat Pork." Cocoplum is valued for its compact growth, attractive foliage, and tolerance to coastal conditions, shallow soils, and partial shade.
