The Coconut (Cocos nucifera) is one of the world's most valuable tropical fruit trees, widely cultivated for its nutritious fruit, refreshing coconut water, edible kernel, oil, fiber, and timber. It is a tall evergreen palm with a slender trunk measuring 1–2 feet in diameter. Mature trees can reach heights of 70–100 feet and produce clusters of 10–15 coconuts throughout the year.

Maintenance of Coconut Plantation

Once established, coconut plantations require regular maintenance to ensure healthy growth and consistent fruit production. Proper irrigation, fertilization, weed control, and protection from pests and diseases are essential.

Fertilizing Coconut Trees

Coconut palms grow well in a wide range of well-drained soils but benefit from regular feeding. Apply a balanced palm fertilizer to maintain healthy growth and maximize yield.

Irrigation

Water young palms regularly until established. Mature trees generally require 600–800 litres of water every 4–7 days depending on climate and soil conditions.
