Garcinia intermedia is a tropical American fruit tree that produces small, flavorful edible fruits. It is commonly known in English as lemon drop mangosteen, a name it shares with the closely related Garcinia madruno due to their similar taste and appearance. In different regions, it is also known by various local names such as mameyito in Spanish-speaking areas, jorco in Costa Rica, and berba in the Philippines.

The tree is fast-growing and typically reaches about 5 meters in height. It adapts well to a variety of soil types and can even be grown in large containers, where it is capable of fruiting. It thrives in warm, humid conditions with regular watering and full sun exposure, but it is not tolerant of frost. The plant has attractive opposite leaves and small whitish flowers, making it suitable for ornamental planting, especially when fruiting.

Propagation is usually done through seeds, although grafting is also possible. Fresh seeds tend to lose viability if dried out, so they are typically kept moist for successful germination. The tree may begin producing fruit within two years under favorable conditions.

The fruit is small and round, about an inch in diameter, with a thin rind that can range in color from yellow to orange or red. Inside, it contains white pulp with a sweet and tangy flavor. It is commonly eaten fresh but can also be used in beverages, jams, and jellies.

The wood of the tree is durable and termite-resistant and is sometimes used for making posts and tool handles.
