Bacupari (Seedling) Fruit Plant

Bacupari trees are widely found across the Amazon basin in South America, including regions of Brazil, Peru, Argentina, Venezuela, Paraguay, and Bolivia. They also appear in some selective tropical regions of Southeast Asia.

The tree can grow up to around 14 meters in height when fully mature. It has an upright trunk and a dense canopy of large green leaves that provide good shade. Bacupari naturally grows in fertile rainforest soils but can also be cultivated in nutrient-rich domestic environments under suitable tropical conditions.

Bacupari belongs to the Garcinia genus. The tree is slow to mature, often taking 7 years or more to begin fruiting. A mature tree can produce a large number of fruits, sometimes exceeding 500 in a productive season. Each fruit typically contains 3 to 4 seeds, which need to be planted soon after extraction as they lose viability quickly.

Cultivation requires warm tropical conditions with adequate sunlight and rainfall. Germination usually occurs within 58 to 78 days, but early growth is relatively slow. Proper spacing is important to accommodate the tree’s eventual size and canopy spread.

The wood of the bacupari tree is generally brown to grey or dark yellow and is typically odorless.
