Babloos / Pomelo (Red, Graft) Fruit Plant
Pomelo (Pummelo) is the largest member of the citrus family and is considered the ancestor of modern grapefruit. Native to China and Southeast Asia, this premium citrus fruit is now widely cultivated in India and across tropical regions for its refreshing taste and exceptional nutritional value.
Pomelo fruits are large, weighing approximately 1–2 kg, with a thick, soft peel that is easy to remove. The juicy flesh ranges in colour from yellow and pink to deep red, offering a delightful combination of sweetness, mild tartness, and refreshing citrus flavour.
The Pomelo tree is an attractive evergreen fruit tree that thrives in warm tropical and subtropical climates, making it an excellent choice for both home gardens and commercial orchards.

Growing Conditions
Pomelo grows best in warm tropical and subtropical climates with full sunlight and well-drained fertile soil. Regular irrigation and balanced nutrition encourage vigorous growth and high-quality fruit production.
With proper care, the tree becomes a long-lived, productive citrus plant capable of producing large, premium-quality fruits every season.
Fertilizer Schedule
Apply well-decomposed organic manure along with balanced chemical fertilizers for optimum growth and fruit production.
-
NPK 13-13-21 is recommended to improve fruit quality and sweetness.
-
Apply fertilizer in two split doses:
-
Before flowering
-
5–6 months after flowering
-
-
Increase fertilizer quantity gradually as the tree matures.
-
Foliar fertilizer spraying is recommended every 20 days, starting 40 days after planting until approximately 140 days after fruit set.
Watering & Maintenance
Young Pomelo trees require regular watering until they become well established. Mature trees should receive deep irrigation every 1–2 weeks during dry weather.
Apply organic mulch around the base of the tree to retain soil moisture and suppress weed growth. Keep the area within 1.5 meters around the tree free from weeds for healthy root development.
Proper orchard management, including regular monitoring and maintenance, helps ensure vigorous growth and consistent fruit production.
Pruning
Prune young trees 4–6 months after planting by topping the main stem approximately 30–40 cm above ground level. This encourages the development of 3 evenly spaced primary branches, resulting in a strong and well-balanced canopy.
Regular pruning of dead, damaged, or diseased branches helps improve air circulation and overall tree health.
Pest & Disease Management
Like other citrus trees, Pomelo may occasionally be affected by pests and diseases. Proper watering, fertilization, pruning, orchard sanitation, and weed control greatly reduce potential problems.
Maintaining healthy trees through regular care is the best method for preventing most insect and disease issues.
Harvesting
Pomelo fruits generally reach maturity 140–160 days after fruit set.
As the fruits ripen, the skin becomes brighter and the oil glands on the rind become more visible and glossy. This natural colour change begins at the tip of the fruit and gradually progresses towards the stem, indicating that the fruit is ready for harvest.
