Yellow Jabuticaba (Layering) Fruit Plant

Yellow jaboticaba (Myrciaria glazioviana) is a tropical fruit species in the Myrtaceae family, native to the southeastern regions of Brazil, particularly the states of Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais. It grows as a small tree or shrub, typically reaching 4–7 meters in height.

The plant has attractive lime-green leaves, 7–11 cm long, with a soft, slightly powdery texture. Its branches are slender and often pendulous, giving the tree a highly ornamental appearance, making it popular in tropical gardens.

The fruit is small, round, and yellow with a slightly fuzzy skin. Inside, it contains a gelatinous whitish pulp surrounding one or two seeds. The flavor is sweet with a tangy note, often compared to pineapple. While a single tree can produce fruit on its own, cross-pollination generally improves yield.

The species is moderately cold-tolerant but should be protected from frost. It also grows well in containers, allowing it to be moved to sheltered locations in cooler climates. It prefers full sun to partial shade and adapts well to home gardens due to its compact size.
