Passion Fruit (Black, Layer) Plant

Purple passionfruit is slightly smaller than yellow passionfruit, typically measuring 5 to 7 centimeters in diameter. It has a round to oval shape with gently curved ends. The skin is smooth and waxy when young, displaying purple to dark red tones, and gradually matures into a darker shade with a leathery, dimpled, and wrinkled texture.

Inside, the fruit contains a white, spongy, and inedible pith that surrounds the seed cavity. The pulp consists of numerous small edible black seeds coated in a juicy, yellow to orange gel-like sac that is aqueous, slippery, and highly succulent. Purple passionfruit is highly aromatic, offering a tropical, floral aroma with a sweet-tart flavor profile and subtle musky undertones reminiscent of guava.
