Mentawa / Entawak (Seedling) Fruit Plant
Mentawa (Artocarpus anisophyllus), also known as Entawak, is a rare tropical fruit tree closely related to Jackfruit and Breadfruit. Native to Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo, and nearby islands, this exotic fruit is prized for its unique flavor, attractive orange-red flesh, and excellent nutritional value.
The fruit is round, measuring about 3–4 inches in diameter, with a brownish-yellow outer skin and vibrant orange-red flesh. It has a mild, sweet flavor with subtle pumpkin-like notes and can be enjoyed fresh. The edible seeds are commonly roasted, salted, and eaten as a nutritious snack.
Mentawa is a large tropical rainforest tree that can grow up to 45 meters under ideal conditions. It thrives in warm, humid tropical climates and performs best in regions like Kerala. The plant can be propagated through seeds, grafting, cuttings, and other vegetative methods. Although highly valued, Mentawa cultivation remains relatively rare, making it a unique addition to any fruit garden or exotic plant collection.
