Jabuticaba (Red Hybrid, Layering) Fruit Plant

Red Jaboticaba is a seedling hybrid variety known for its faster fruiting compared to normal jaboticaba trees. The fruits display a unique mix of greenish and reddish appearance, making them visually distinctive and attractive.

The tree bark is known to peel naturally, revealing a lighter inner bark. This “false jaboticaba” type may develop multiple trunks over time. The leaves are lance-shaped, glossy, and bright green. Flowers grow in clusters and are snowy white, featuring prominent and showy stamens.

Red Jaboticaba has no frost tolerance but adapts well to a wide range of soil types. It grows best in full sun with well-draining soil. Regular watering is required during the establishment phase, though the plant shows better drought tolerance compared to standard jaboticaba varieties. The fruits are typically eaten fresh by sucking the pulp, while the rind and seeds are discarded. However, the fruit has a short shelf life and tends to spoil or dehydrate quickly after harvest.
