Engkala (Seedling) Fruit Plant
A Unique Tropical Fruit with a Buttery Texture and Delicate Flavor!
The Engkala is a small tropical fruit that looks more suited to the diet of hobbits than humans. Native to Southeast Asia, the fruit is prized for its soft, creamy texture and unique taste. It is typically not eaten raw immediately after harvest. Instead, the fruits are soaked in hot water for about five minutes until their pinkish skin turns white. A gentle squeeze on the sides causes the delicate white flesh to slide out easily.
The fruit can be eaten raw or cooked, and the tree is occasionally cultivated for its edible fruits. When consumed raw, the fruit is often rolled gently between the hands or lightly tapped with a spoon to bruise the flesh slightly, helping to release its rich flavor. Another popular way to enjoy Engkala is by soaking it in hot water and sprinkling it with a little salt. It is also commonly served steamed with rice. Unripe fruits can be pickled, while oil extracted from the seeds is traditionally used in making candles and soap. The wood of the Engkala tree is also valued for construction purposes.
GROWING CONDITIONS
The Engkala tree prefers partial shade and does not tolerate prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, especially during its early growth stages. It grows best in warm, humid tropical climates with well-drained, fertile soil and regular watering.
