Camu-Camu (Myrciaria dubia) is a rare tropical fruit tree belonging to the Myrtaceae family. Native to the Amazon rainforest of Peru and Brazil, it is a small, bushy riverside tree that resembles guava or rumberry and is widely recognized for its exceptional nutritional value and health benefits. The tree typically grows to a height of 3–5 meters (9.8–16.4 feet) and produces attractive red to purple cherry-like fruits.

Camu-Camu is a close relative of the Jabuticaba (Myrciaria cauliflora) and the Guavaberry (Rumberry). It naturally grows in dense populations along Amazon floodplains and riverbanks, thriving in moist tropical environments.

About Camu-Camu Fruit

The tree produces small, fragrant flowers with waxy white petals and a pleasant sweet aroma. Its evergreen foliage consists of lance-shaped to elliptical leaves, giving the tree an attractive, bushy appearance. The fruits mature from red to deep maroon or purple-black and contain juicy flesh that ranges from pleasantly sweet to mildly acidic.

Wild Camu-Camu fruits are traditionally harvested directly into canoes from riverside trees growing in the Amazon basin.
